Premature Ejaculation and Antidepressants
Premature ejaculation can sometimes be caused by anxiety and depression. These emotional problems make men more anxious in bed and thus more likely to have premature ejaculation issues. When faced with depression, doctors often prescribe antidepressants to deal with the problem and this medication can have an odd effect on sexual prowess as well.
Antidepressants can not only alleviate depression, but can also have the side effect of alleviating premature ejaculation as well. This is because these drugs numb and suppress many of the hormones that cause depression and premature ejaculation as well. These drugs can also make you feel fuzzy and detached, meaning that you are less likely to be involved emotionally and mentally in sexual activity, thus you will be less stimulated and last longer.
However, before you go racing off to convince your doctor that you’re in need of antidepressants, it’s very important to know that the FDA have not approved these drugs to treat premature ejaculation, nor will it do much for you over the long term anyway. Although these drugs will suppress many of the factors surrounding this problem, it won’t actually work to fixing the problem and thus when you are finally off the drugs, you will be right back to having the problem, only likely worse because of the medication’s effect on other parts of your body. Antidepressants can also decrease your desire to have sex in the first place, which is just as bad for you and your partner.
Antidepressants may have this nice side effect for some couples, but it’s important to remember that you aren’t actually tackling the problem and thus it won’t go away. Once you’re off the medication, the problem will return, so use this time to find a more permanent cure. Or else you may end up having to search for premature ejaculation cure as well!
